Involuntary hold guidelines

Hey everyone just wondering in your facility what are the behaviors or patient statements that equal a automatic hold involuntary if needed. For both long term and emergency holds and how long are your involuntary holds good for?

Holds in OR are for up to 5 business days (court days), starting the day after it is written. Bummer for people who get a hold written on Christmas eve. The rationale for a hold is danger to self, danger to others or unable to provide for basic needs (almost never used as hold basis, and rarely goes to court committment hearing -- too hard to prove, the mental health investigators say).

The county i work in can be interesting if the 302 proceeds to a 303. I've gotten pretty good at knowing what will or won't stand, what the lawyer will pounce on. If we feel the likelihood of losing the 303 is high doc typically holds the patient as long as legally allowed.
