I've frequently been asked by many of you if there are any introductory courses or educational offerings that I am aware of related to nursing informatics. We finally have a course developed by one of my colleagues from ANIA - the American Nursing Informatics Association. See link below. Looks fantastic. Congrats Gisella!

From the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Nursing Informatics Practice, 2001, pg vii
"Nursing Informatics is a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. Nursing informatics facilitates the integration of data, information and knowledge to support patients, nurses and other providers in their decision-making in all roles and settings. This support is accomplished through the use of information structures, information processes, and information technology."

Another way to learn about nursing informatics is to join a nursing networking group like ANIA, CARING, MANI, CSR-CIN, and others, attend a HIMSS meeting (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) or a weekend workshop like WINI (Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics). The new website for WINI is http://www.icce.us.
See you at a conference soon.
