intrajugular shunting

Published

hi! :D Im a student nurse and i would like to know anything about intrajugluar shunting. I had a patient with chronic renal failure and he was in for intrajugular shunting. i know for a fact that a shunt is inserted via the jugular vein to the kidney if the kidney is unable to function. But, i need some more views on this operative procedure especially the steps done. i have searched the net for the definition of Intrajugular shunting but there was never a clear definition of the procedure. Hope i receive lots of help from you :) I look forward to reading your posts if ever you do decide to help me out. I'm still learning and I learn more from what other people has to say :D Thank you very much and any comment would really be appreciated :D

are you sure this in not a TIPS (Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt ) procedure for portal hypertension. just clarifying as this is the only jugular shunt i can think of)

Another possibility might be the placement of a perma-cath into the jugular or sub-clavian for use as dialysis catheter?
