Interview this week at San Quentin

Specialties Correctional

Hi all,

I'm a RN currently working with dementia patients but I have an interview this week at San Quentin. I've read the posts already that have talked about working there...Wondering if anyone has any further new info about what it's like, what the RNs do exactly, etc. I've also been studying this week as I feel I've forgotten a lot of nursing knowledge that doesn't pertain to Alzheimer's. I', really excited, though, about the possibility of working there!

Any info would be great!

Thanks!

Liz

Hi Liz,

I'm a new grad and I was wondering... When did you apply for the RN position in San Quentin? I just recently mailed my application, and I wanted to know how long it took them to call you for an interview. I'm really anxious to get this job as my first! Thanks for your reply and for your time!

Hi Edwin,

I'm in a similar position as you, although I've worked since graduation as an RN at a sub-acute day health facility for 3months. I'm also considering applying to San Quentin. Did you get hired? If so, do you like it? thanks!

Hi everyone,

Sorry but I haven't been on this board for a long time. I sent in my application December 2007, got called for an interview in April 2008 and hired in May. We were just told that they are looking to hire several more RNS so applying now is the time to do it. Good luck!

can you tell me about the process after you got the call? i guess now it's a different situation because of the down economy.

by the way, how's work there? and do you really have to lift anything heavy in there?

Hi-are you still working at San Quentin? I recently applied. How do you like it? What are the shift lengths? Are the staff good to work with? I have worked with inmates before in county jails but not in prison system. Drop me a note if you can. Thanks, Dogwalker
