This may not be helpful, as it was FOREVER ago... early 90's. But, my first job out of LVN school was at TCH. I was hired for the pulmonary/adolescent unit. I responded to an ad in the Houston Chronicle, had one interview, and got the job. After a week (or two?) in classroom orientation, I worked the floor with a preceptor for three months. I stayed there for nearly two years, until I decided to go to clinic nursing and move back to my home town.
It was a great learning experience, working in a big-city academic medical center. Good luck!

i am an lvn that is very interested in getting into maternal/newborn and pediatric care. i am considering relocating, from the dallas area, to houston and i have applied to texas children's hospital. i just received a call back and they have scheduled a phone interview for later this week!!!
i am interesting to know if there is anyone out there that has either worked with this network or has interviewed with them. i am interested in hearing about all experiences.
what can i expect from the interview? what is it like to work within this network? do they generally hire lvns? what is the salary like? are they dedicated to training and promoting advancement in the skills of their nurses? is it a good enviroment for a new nurse to learn and hone her skills? :confused:etc...
any information would be considered very helpful. thank you.
