Interview Questions?

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

After reading through some of these forums I know you ladies/gents are knowledgable so I would like to ask for you help. I'm having to create a mock interview for my career field, and I have yet to complete my degree as a Registered Nurse.

Can anyone give me a good list of questions that an interviewer will or could ask me when I go to this type of job interview? I don't want the answers, I need to be able to answer those on my own.

Your help would be so appreciated.

hi, cyberdot, and welcome to allnurses! :welcome:

i've done a fair amount of interviewing as a manager. here are links to questions for interviewing:

things not to do at an interview:

  • talk about your personal self.
  • show your superiority in the situation.
  • show your agreement or disagreement with the things the interviewer says.
  • compare yourself with other candidates or other persons who currently fill the position during the interview.
  • interrupt the interviewer for no reason (the interruption is accepted only with a specific purpose).
  • use or talk about technology you can't understand.
  • talk about irrelevant things.

since i also write a good number of recommendations as well, i have list of desirable qualities an employer wants to see in a worker. this list is extracted from lists of employment interview questions i have looked at over the years. many interview questions are designed around these behaviors and attributes:

  • initiative
  • motivation
  • positive attitude
  • dynamic energy
  • responsibility
  • ability to give good customer service
  • capacity to learn
  • productivity
  • flexibility
  • leadership
  • team work
  • ability to tolerate pressure
  • analytical ability
  • desire to develop professionally

characteristics to evaluate a candidate for:

  • oral communication - speaks clearly with precision and accuracy
  • written communication-precise, accurate, grammatically correct
  • intellectual ability - aptitude for the job or school
  • leadership - takes initiative and motivates others
  • ethics - honest, integrity, ethical behavior
  • empathy - considerate sensitive and tactful in response to others
  • reliability - dependable, responsible, prompt and thorough
  • judgment - displays critical thinking skills, common sense and decisiveness
  • interpersonal relations - able to get along well with peers and superior
  • adaptability - reacts well to stress, posed and controlled

there is a forum on allnurses called nursing career advice (https://allnurses.com/forums/f87/). you might want to search the tread for interview question or advice. it also has this sticky thread on it that you might want to look at:

  • "wondering why you can't get hired or promoted: resume + interview hints!" https://allnurses.com/forums/f87/wondering-why-you-cant-get-hired-promoted-resume-interview-hints-84387.html

you might specifically search on that forum for posts by me using the search word "interview" since i'm sure i have posted lists of specific questions on allnurses before, just don't remember when or where.

i also think that if you go to the website of monster.com to their section on advice for resumes, etc., they will have a section of advice on interviewing. the last time i was on their website searching that area they had specific articles that pertained to nursing and healthcare resumes.

good luck with your project!
