Interview Questions

Specialties NICU

Hello to all NICU nurses. I am a new grad who has an interview for the NICU next week, and I am very nervous, can any of you tell me some of the types of questions you were asked during your interview, and if any of you had to do any written tests? Thanks!

Specializes in NICU,PICU.

For the interview, we usually have the person shadow a nurse for 4 hours to see what our unit is like. Then for the interview you would be asked what drew you to NICU, what do you think your tasks would be..you'd be surprised at how many think all we do is feed babies and don't realize how long we are on our feet! We might also ask you some ethic related questions since this is a hot pot for ethics. We don't give a written test, that is for after orientation :)

Good luck!!!

Thank you so much for the information!!!

I am a new grad with a job in the NICU. I did a 180 hour senior practicum there so I had a good idea of what it was like. The questions I was asked in my HR interview are as follows, I talked to the nurse manager of the unit before I turned in my application it was more of a chat than an interview.

I was asked why I wanted to work in the NICU. I was asked how I handle criticism. I was asked how I would react if a parent freaked out on me (not the exact wording). I was asked behavioral questions and how I handle stress.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the information! Can I ask you though if you are in an American or Canadian Hospital, and if you had to at any time take a written drug calculation test? I just want to be prepared, I really want this position!

Hello everyone!

I am a foreign nurse, I am getting ready for NCLEX RN . I hope one day work in US in NICU.

I 've been working at NICU for over five years outside US. My question is if you know anyone like me working in nicu. If there is any chanse to get sponsorship via hospital in order to work in NICU of US?

Thank you for any reply!
