Being a new Grad, hospital jobs are hard to come by, so I applied for every position I saw. An obgyn office was hiring a RN, so I applied. I was called for an interview with the charge nurse. I was told there were alot of applicants and she would let me know in a week one way or another if I got the position. Did not hear anything for two weeks. I called, the secretary said she did not make a decision yet. ( I thought they were just blowing me off)
almost 3 weeks later I was called and asked if I was still interested and wanted to come in for an interview with one of the doctors. Im thrilled but.... I am a nervous wreck! I don't know how to "sell myself" when I have no experience in this area at all. (except my maternity clinical rotation)
I know I could learn the job with trainning, but I'm not sure how much trainning they offer.
How do you sell yourself in a case like this????
Thanks for any encouragement/advice

There is something about you:) sell yourself the way you sold yourself the first time. Be sociable, warm and welcoming.

Just be honest about this being the first job out of school, but you're very interested in working with them and learning how they do things , and would love to work with the type of patients they have (study up on the services they offer). :) Everybody has to have a first job- and this sounds nice :) Offices can be really busy- but you get the chance to know more about what the docs think about when they order things. :) Good luck

Is this an area that you really have an interest in? If so, look up interview questions and practice. Have a friend ask you some questions. Be prepared to explain why you would be a good fit for this position and what makes you stand out...Any chance you can get a letter of recommendation from your OB instructor to back you up? Also, think about making a small portfolio to highlight your nursing school achievements (any awards or scholarships? A well done OB care plan?A copy of your transcript if you have a nice one? Any special certifications or training)? A portfolio is also good to have because if the interview gets awkward for some reason, you can pull it out and have something to talk about.
What qualities do you have that make you desirable (flexibility, willingness to train hard and make some sacrifices, a natural love and talent in OB)?
Be creative, go in to your interview with confidence. Smile. Good luck!
Here's an update after the 2nd interview.... Not sure how the interview went. I was so damn nervous.. I felt like i wasn't asked any of the questions I thought I was prepared for, but was asked a few I wasn't anyway, at the end of the interview I was told they would make a decision by Friday... did not hear a word. I called on Monday, got her voicemail... said, " I was wondering if you made a decision about the position, could you let me know one way or another. No word, no call. Why do they tell you they will let you know one way or another. Do they ever call back to tell you that you didn't get a job?
I'm so bummed. i really wanted the job. I was hoping that I would get some feedback as to how I interviewed.
Oh well... I guess it's back to the grind!
Thanks for listening...
