Interview help please :)

I recently had an interview for a level I NICU, I currently have 1 year of experience as a Cardiopulmonary Stepdown RN. During the interview the manager did not seem very interested in me personally and told me they currently had a few positions open, but had 4 student nurses graduating. The end of the interview she placed her hand on my shoulders and said hopefully we will see you again. However, I received an email the following day stating they had not chosen me for the position. I have now placed my application in for the PICU and if I go for an interview, I want to be prepared. For my NICU interview I was soooo excited to be there but held alot of that in because I did not want to come off as some crazy nurse. Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you in advance ~Jess

It is important that you express in your interview that the job is "the job of your dreams!" They want someone who wants to be there and see the excitement in their face (though not too theatrical or anything). I also ALWAYS follow up with a hand written thank you card. I am always told that it was so appreciated by the hiring manager and if you and another candidate are the same, that card will set you apart and make you more likely to be offered the job. Hope that helps!!!!

I agree with the PP, show that you want this job! Enthusiasm and of course knowledge, prove you are the best candidate.

FWIW, I doubt you didn't get the NICU job because of your lack if enthusiasm, it was probably because they had 4 student nurses who they knew and trusted ready to take the positions.
