Interview for an ED training program

Only a day after graduation, I get a call from a manager to schedule an interview next week. My initial excitement has now faded to anxiety. For other new grads who have interviewed for a new grad ED program, what questions were you asked? What should I expect?

Congrats! Which ED New grad program?

It's a training program at the sister hospital to the one I work at. I don't want to give away too much about where I work, so I won't give the name of the hospital where this program will be. It is a 31 bed level 2 trauma ED, very busy, and it is in the process of expanding. I am preparing for behavioral questions, but I don't know what other questions to expect.

Oh wow, well congratulations!! Let us know how it goes!

Interview went well, I think. I was in front of a panel (oh dear God!), which consisted of the assistant manager, 5 nurses including 2 charge nurses, and one tech. So a wide array of people who asked me questions. Quite the experience. I was asked a lot of questions about my clinical experience, and what I would do in certain situations. I got a question on how I would react if I pulled out the wrong med to give during a code (thank God I have taken ACLS and know the difference between epinephrine and atropine), and a tech called me on it. I was also asked what I would do if I had a coworker who was not pulling his or her weight. All in all, I think my answers were satisfactory, and with the questions I didn't quite anticipate, I pulled from my prepared answers. I hope the panel was impressed. Hopefully I get a call next week, good or bad.

Now on to the next one.

Good for you! It sounds like you knew what you were talking about which is great! I hope you hear some good news next week! I have an interview for an ED position coming up and I have been trying my best to prepare for it! I don't know how competitive the position(s) is/are but hopefully I'll have a chance!

Unfortunately, I was not chosen for this position. It sucks, but at least I got interview practice. That was my first time I was interviewed by a panel. Hopefully the second position I heard back from comes through (it's at Memorial).

I am sorry to hear that, but I wish you the best with Memorial!
