Hi all,
I am graduating this May, and I have just received word that I will have an interview at Duke University Hospital next week. I was wondering if anyone had any interview tips for me? This is my very first interview (besides a life guarding job) so I need all the help I can get!
Thanks so much to everyone who replies!
Hi!
Congrats on the interview!! I think the interviews vary depending on the department.. I did wear scrubs as they told me to.. First I met with the recruiter at DUH. Then she took me to the unit to shadow for two hours with a nurse. That was really neat because you can ask them anything/everything you wanted to know about the unit and get their honest opinion. After the two hours were over I met with the nurse manager. Our interview was very much behavioral and she asked me a lot of questions along the line of "tell me a time when.." So be prepared to answer with specific examples.. I found it slightly challenging.. but everyone there really likes their job and you can tell.. I wouldnt get too nervous about it- it's a relaxed atmosphere and they just want to see if you are a good fit for the position as well as the position is a good fit for you! In my case, it took them about a week to let us know the results!! Good Luck!! Let me know if I can answer any more questions!
Hey sbhendrix, I saw from some of your previous posts that you had an interview on the peds unit. Was it unit 5100? I also interviewed with that unit and was extended an offer! I start in January. I am relocating to NC from Massachusetts so I'm trying to make some contacts of potential new coworkers and friends. Will you be working at Duke?
I also was invited down for the OR open house the 27th and I am not sure if I should go down or not. I got an interview with a dr's office near home and would hate to pass up a potential job to go down for the open house and not get offered anything after the fact but an OR position is such a great opportunity. Also, has anyone received the link to send references.
I called about the link as well and received it yesterday and have all my references in line so thats one less thing to worry about. And I am just going to do both interviews and hope that it works out. What OR did you apply for? This is such a great opportunity and its great they have so many options for new grads
I completely agree with you about the opportunities at Duke. I forgot to keep track of what OR preference I indicated, but if memory serves me right, I think it was urology or cardiology. Honestly, however, I would be happy with any type of OR. How about you? I will be traveling from out of state for this interview so I really hope it works out, otherwise it will be an expensive job interview.
I has said ortho granted I would be happy with anything as well. I just had done my 200 hour preceptorship experience on an ortho floor and thought it would give me a leg up having a little bit of ortho knowledge. I also will be traveling from out of state for this interview from MA so its hard to invest money into something that may be an opportunity. Hopefully we will both get offers and it will be worth the travel.
