Interventions for risk for infection with a neonate...any suggestions??

Published

Hi everyone!

Im doing a careplan for a newborn neonate who was born to a mother positive for GBS and also had PROM. My nursing diagnosis is risk for infection, im trying to come up with interventions specific towards newborns, all i have is handwashing, clustering cares, noticing signs and symptoms....does anyone have any other suggestions for interventions?? any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!!

you need to watch the WBC lab values... a high WBC count is indicative of infection.

Encourage early enteral feeding with human breastmilk... rationale: it enhances defenses of infant

Avoid prophylactic use of topical cream in premature infants. Rationale: prophylactic topical ointment increases the risk of a staph infection and any other hospital acquired infection

Hope that helps... I got a care plan book and these came from it!
