Internet in ER: Good or Bad??

Specialties Emergency

Published

I am posting this thread because as more and more hospitals are going to computer charting and such.....should they block the internet or leave it on?

I work in a variety of hospitals big and small, most hospitals that i work at allow the internet, however, will block certain sites. At one of the hospitals where i am PRN at is a rural small 4 bed ER, well when we have no patients, things are stocked and checklist is done, i like to get on the net and surf. I don't get on any nasty sites or such, just nursing sites or email. Well, we just got a new nurse manager and she said anybody on the internet will be written up..... Asking comrad to comrad....AM I MISSING SOMETHING>>>

as a travel nurse ive seen it all, from full access to none at all and no reference books to help out either, one urban hosp allowed the admissions desk people access but not the er, go figure, they could get their shopping done,, another hosp sm rural hosp had access but not allowed to use it even though there was no patients in the er and i was sitting there all by myself ( was passing out asleep on nights better) i was also chastised for going out to the waiting area to watch tv when there were no patients, i wk at a gov hosp now and we have restricted access, i usually bring my laptop and dial out when no patients, everyone else reads books,, to the non smokers ive learned to take non smoking smoke breaks, irritates the heck out of supervisiors,, had my other icu nurse go out 5 times in an hr one night, really bugged me,, thats another topic,,,
