(International Student in US) New Grad job help

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi all,

I'm an international student, studying nursing in Texas and graduating in May 2020.

I'm really interested to know if anyone is in a similar boat or have a similar background.

I have applied for many new grad residency programs in the US (Mainly TX, VA, MD, NC, NJ) , but I cannot even land an interview right now. As an international new grad, I will have one year OPT, so I don't need sponsorship for the nurse residency program, but I will need it in the future. I don't know if my VISA status is the main reason that I haven't been successful getting an offer or interview. Also, I have only been applying for University affiliated Magnet recognized Hospitals, because it would help me having a better chance of getting H1b Sponsored in the future. So maybe Magnet hospitals are too competitive for new grads?

Any advice for someone in my situation? At this point, I'm willing to relocate to almost anywhere.

It could be that those areas you are applying to require one to have an RN license to get paste the automatic rejection. Some areas are swamped with new grads, and rather than take a chance on someone who has yet to pass NCLEX, facilities are only looking for those who already have.
