O.R. Techs in Canada/Ab?

I was wondering if anyone knows if here in Canada we have OR techs? I havent been able to find any Canadian sites with OR tech descriptions. Does anyone know?

University Hospital employs OR techs. One of our RRTs is doing that now. But I don't see anything on the job site related to that (the closest is Clinical Equipment Specialist I), so I'll ask around and get back to you.

no problemo. i started to edit my post, because i'd forgotten about manitoba, where i know they had or techs; they were members of the manitoba nurses' union. but when i went to make sure that was still the case, my editing screen went poof. anyway, they're no longer on the salary grid with mnu and i couldn't turn up any postings with the winnipeg regional health authority. but i'll keep looking.

Grant MacEwan in Edmonton does the OR Tech course. It's under their nursing programme information. Can't remember where exactly but macewan.ca and go to nursing. It's under the opportunities for LPN's.

AORTA is also the provincial group for OR Techs in Alberta.

I have just recently enquired about the same thing. OR tech is a specialty I am interested in also.

I contacted the CNO (College of Nurses Ontario) and they said a RPN is fully qualified after taking the OR tech course. OR Tech does not require a BScN. I believe it is available at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario and several in Toronto.

I want to thank you guys again. Now that I know I can go ahead and get this training into the OR once I successfully start and finish my LPN. Just thank you so much because right now thats what I need to hear. After having to let go my "life dream" career of continuing working on the ambulance and the ortho issues I have had will prevent that but hearring what you guys found out and helping me find the right information has been more than wonderful. truely a blessing on my end. Thank you so much.
