3 weeks till i arrive in UK

Only three weeks now before i leave Australia to come and work in the UK. I'm going travelling a bit first then will start work in may with an agency and see from there what i want to do. I'm starting off in London and have been looking at the prices of accomodation and am very sad :crying2:

Other than that, I'm looking forward to it. leaving here in summer and arriving in time for summer in UK :coollook:

I live not far from Leeds and they have a good training hospitals, plus it is very central so you can visit most places within the UK without too much trouble plus cost of living is better than London

I am seriously thinking of Leeds, I've just been on the website for Leeds and also the hospital. I am getting turned off London rapidly, as a place to live and work, and I haven't even arrived yet!!

I might change my plans and go straight to Leeds, but i have only got one week. Shall look into it today thugh, nothing else to do that is pressing.

Hi there,

Hopefully silverdradon can advise you of areas to avoid. If you know the areas it helps alot.

There are lots of big hospitals in Leeds so there will always be nurses etc wanting to share.

If you end up in Leeds please PM me and let me as I am thinking of doing some travel nursing in the UK and the Leeds/Harrogate area is the area I want to go. What companies or agencies are you using? Do they assist with your travel over? Thanks for any info.

I also live near Leeds and here's a site some of you guys might like to look at. I think some of the agencies also sponsor foriegn nurses.

Hello

I am nursing in Perth Australia but am planning to move to UK in the near future-most probably next year. I would like to know whether it is better to sign up with an agency based here in Perth for a job in UK or will it better to find a nursing agency when I get to UK.

I'm quite anxious and excited about the aspect of travelling and working overseas where I will be far away from my family.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!:uhoh21:

Hi, thanks, I have been looking at the undesirable areas and it's still expensive!! Funnily enough, I planned to move out of london after about 3 months ans was considering going to Scotland as well. I also was looking at leeds, they have a large hospital base.

Thornbury Nursing is also in Scotland but under the name Scottish Nursing Guild.. As others have said thier pay rates are the best i've seen for nursing agencies.. I'm currently full time with the Scottish Nursing Guild(SNG) as I live up here in Scotland .. Dunfermline area... So far have not had a shortage of shifts.. I started with them early Feb after leaving a position with a Research Organization. Found I miss acute care..

Yes, I have arrived. I am going to do the final paperwork at the agency tomorrow and will start work next month as I am travelling for the rest of this month. I'll be back then with lots of questions about UK nursing!
