International Nurses in the USA

Published

Hi all,

I am an international nurse that started my job in the USA. I am living here only 8 months and working only 2 months ( still orientation). Everything Ok , but sometimes I don't understand my co-workers because of English, I don't know slang and abbreviation and I feel very bad with this. I try to learn all this stuff but it's really confusing and difficult. I have good preceptor but she can't understand my problem.

Maybe somebody can help me with advice or has such experience like me.

Thank You:crying2:

Specializes in PICU.
Rity... come here to give ou a hug sweety. I am a foreign nurse also and yes is not about english is about any foreign language and people cultural issue and how open they are for foreigners.

Advices:

1. not blame you so much... medical orders don't come in "slangs"

2. Using slangs or tricky expression in front of you... ..you need to give them feeback about it, if you don't understand or if is somenthing related to your profession, if not.... keep in your mind and verify after. People use slangs in chitchat also... I hope that you don't want to be in, looooool at your work place, is safe.

3. Keep in mind that are nurses who could do it by purpose, looool....always a bad one somewhere

4. Yes you need a friend (hard huh to be so open to explain why, and with what reason they behave like)

FOR NURSING: clasic english is on the papers, on professional communication. If someone else don't use it for this purpose... somenthing is not ok.

You will do great...you are a such a good heart honey...you will be OK, or if you fell frustated...send me a PM to talk in details, I am foreign also, and I know how you fell. Tons of love till then :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

Hi,

I think I need you help with my problem. Could you tell me about your adaptation on the work place , please?
