International (Australian) Nurses taking NCLEX

I'm from Australia, new grad..currently working full-time under a new grad program on post surgical ward. After completing my new grad program I would like to move to the states and work in california. I wanted to start the process soon so that by the time im done with new grad program and hold 1 year experiance im hoping the process will at least be half way completed to move to the states.. here is my main questions if you guys could help me please.

1, Would they want me to complete my new grad before contacting the nursing board and applying for ATT?

2, How many years of experiance do they usually ask for?

3, would they consider post surgical ward being acute?

Any advices and informations are welcome.. Im open to hear anyones input on this.. Thank you guys sooo much! appreciate all the help.

I see a few issues ahead of you for CA and maybe the other states.

Firstly CA will not accept a application without a US SSN and that you will not get until in the US on a valid work/immigrant visa

Secondly your transcripts will have to have hours both clinical and theory in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult with concurrency.

Thirdly CA is currently one of the hardest states to find work in especially if a new grad. Not sure what visa you are looking at but immigrant visa is affected by retrogression and looking at a 6+ year wait for a visa. H1b is a specialist visa and generally new grads do not meet requirement. E3 may require some experience but best to look for threads/posts by ghillbert who is in the US on a E3 visa and can probably advise you more on that visa

Any state you apply to will require you to have graduated from nursing school/university and for many will require you to go through some form of course assessment like CGFNS or other acceptable provider. (this will be indicated on their website)

The main issue once you have met BON requirements and passed NCLEX is finding a employer willing to go through the process in regards work/immigrant visa
