Hi everyone, this is my first time asking a question on here. I am interested in an internal transfer for the hospital I work for their outpatient center. I work nights and I never see my boss. Is it frowned upon to email my boss or call my boss that I am interested in applying for inpatient location? Or should I stay two extra hours to meet in person? I may be over thinking this. I need advice.

Why not "split the difference"? Inform your boss via email then offer to meet in person if he/she would like to...

You must have a day off. Come in on your day off to see your manager, and have a nice paper copy of a professional letter of resignation.

I wouldn’t discuss it. Apply for the job. If you are offered the job then see your boss in person and hand them your resignation letter. Nothing good will come of telling them you are looking to leave their unit.
