Is there anyone out there in nurse land that has any recent travel experience to st thomas or st croix? everything that I find is old. Do nurses still travel there?
I'm in St Thomas and have been here since Jan. of this year, my contract ends on Nov. 29th. After I leave here I won't be returning to this hospital again. I have seen professionalism, patient care and staff satisfaction spiraling down hill daily. I have stayed here this long because my daughter and family live here. Most travelers who leave here feel the same way. They are extremely short staffed so you definitely earn your money.
Everything in the islands is run by the local govt. so I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that one. I hope I have helped you, feel free to ask any other questions you may have. :typing

St Croix is a very pet friendly island. My daughter lives there and most places allow pets. People take their dogs everywhere with them. Most of the restaurants are outdoors and have their own local pets there. You'll be suprised how friendly they are toward pets, it seems like everyone is has a pet.
I am on St Thomas and it isn't as pet friendly here, I wasn't able to bring mine with me, I had to leave her at home. Sharing a house with another nurse is a good idea if it works for you, you can save a lot of money. As far as bringing your 14 yr old with you I would suggest private or home school, public school is kind of rough. The teachers are staging sick outs right now due to conditions and pay, I would really check it out. I don't want to scare you but I'd just check everything out before making the trip. Good luck!!!!! :nuke:
