Hello!
I am in the midst of my senior year at UT Austin for a major completely unrelated to nursing. I've toyed with the idea for awhile in my mind and now know nursing is the right path for me and couldn't be more excited to start this new part of my life. I've heard such great things about the TCU FastBacc program and that is my current dream. My plan is to take my prereq's next semester and during next summer and apply for the May 2016 cohort in December 2015. My current GPA, however, is a sad 3.3. I am more than willing to put my everything into doing well on the HESI as well as putting my all into acing my prereqs, but with my current GPA is this even a viable option?
I am truly terrified of taking a year off after graduation to study and take these classes and have no possibility of getting in. I am extremely overwhelmed (and anxious and excited) so any advice would be so wonderful!

When you refer to TCU, are you referring to Texas Christian University's accelerated BSN program?
If your GPA is a 3.3, Tarleton State will take you easily. My former coworker was accepted into their BSN program with a 2.8, and a friend was provisionally accepted with a 2.6 in the prerequisites. In addition, Tarleton's tuition is significantly cheaper than TCU because it is a state university.
Don't let the distance deter you: up to half of the students in the nursing program commute from the DFW area.
