Hello Nurses,
I am a RN from MN. I have two years of experience as a RN. I also have charge nurse experience and preceptor experience. I also have my BSN and planning to get a few certifications. I know MN pays higher for RNs here. I have lots of family in the south. Mostly in Memphis and Mississippi. I am personally tired of being in the north. I have always been interested in Houston and heard good things about it. What are good hospitals in the Houston? What do experienced RNs get paid in the Houston area? And what are typical nurse to patient ratios? any information will be help helpful.
Thanks so much

Howdy,
Houston has always been a magnet for refugees from colder climates &/or anyone seeking to better their economic circumstances - beginning with by the success of the Allen brothers (from NY) in 1832. So, you're certainly in good company. We're very welcoming to new nurses.... that's one of the main reasons we were one of the first nursing compact states (in 2000). One suggestion.... you may want to wait until Fall to make your move so you don't have to deal with the tropical heat right off the bat. But, for all the Houston -bashers, we do so have FOUR SEASONS!... 1. Almost summer, 2. Summer, 3. Still Summer, and 4. Christmas. We even get the occasional multi-hour freeze - that hopefully, makes a dent in the mosquito population.
Comparative salary dollars is not really the best indicator of overall financial well-being - due to all the other factors. Thank heavens someone smarter has already done this! Take a look at Wallethub's analysis done earlier this year. Texas comes out on top with highest annual salaries adjusted for cost of living. I'm sure that others will be along shortly to provide you with specifics about current salary ranges and such.
FYI, H-town natives (& most Texans) really don't consider ourselves part of "the South". We always refer to our state as a singular entity rather than part of a region.... after all, we were an independent country prior to joining the USA.
