Interested in NVCC program

Published

I am interested in applying for the NVCC nursing program as soon as I can complete the last 3 pre-req classes I need. I first went to NVCC (obtaining a GPA of 2.8) where I think I completed all the prereq's for it besides taking the NAS 161&162 and SDV classes as far as I can tell (took MTH 241&271, chemistry in highschool, and biology 101&102 while at NVCC). I then transfered to GMU graduating with a BA in Anthropology with a GPA of 3.28.

What would influence the admission process more? My 2.8 at NVCC, any future NAS 161&162 grades, or my BA GPA from GMU?

I've always been interested in the medical field from a very young age and got discouraged when I got a C in my Biology 102 class.

It is clearly stated in the information session that your scores from the TEAS, NAS 161 & 162, SDV, ENG 111, and computer competency are what they use to determine your admission. The cutoff is 2.5 and if you got all A's in each of your remaning pre-reqs you would be in good standings for potential admission.

Your bachelors degree is a factor but the pre-req g.p.a counts more. I stress getting B's and A's in the NAS classes and SDV is a pretty easy A. It's getting really competitive, I know of some ppl in my NAS 162 class that are repeating because they got C's and B's and they didn't get in last Fall/Spring.

One will find the age at NVCC to be older, some have retired from their other line of work, and many already have BSN, masters, and I belive 1 even has a PhD. If you do some poking around on the NVCC website and do a search for nursing program, who will find the formula on how they select the students. Best of luck, its a great program.

I forgot to correct mention yesterday that you do not have to take the SDV class if you already have a Bachelors degree.

I was wondering what my chances of getting into the program for fall 09. My GPA is low...around 3.1/3.2, AP1 grade 4.0. teas test high 90%. because my AP1 and TEas test are high will that make up for the low GPA? Does anyone know a friend that did or didnt get in with a gpa like mine or ap1 grade like mine.

Thanks :)

It is hard to say, as last year was the first year that it was competitive, so not much to go on! prior to that, it was first come, first served. Best of luck

I am interested to know the answer to your questions as well but the school does not publish their admission statistics. It's worth a try calling the school or emailing them at [email protected] and asking them.

Nova's nursing program has really expanded over the past couple of years. I think that they put the 2.5 gpa to screen out people who usually fail the first semester, not because the enrollment space is limited. If you have a 2.5 gpa, I think you will surely get in.

I know a few people in my NAS class that had 2.9 they didn't get in last fall. So 2.5 is a bare minimum I think 3.0 and higher will give anyone better odds.

2.5 GPA is the bare minimum!! Not everyone that applied to the program got accepted.
