Interested in this field

I did not/do not know a great deal about this field, but where I work, at a teaching facility with associated with a university, they are actively recruiting nurses to get an MSN in Informatics. Can someone tell me more about this field?

I am interested in furthering my nursing education but I have no desire to be an NP. I was looking at nursing education when I came upon the informatics topic.

Thanks in advance!

I know little about the field but I knew a nurse friend a few years ago that left floor nursing for nurse informatics and he used to help set up programs for different floor charting assessments. He used to train all new nurse employees on how to chart, what to chart, etc. I actually don't see that title a lot anymore and it maybe under the Nurse Education umbrella and is part of new nurse orientation. I can see that easily becoming a robot type program with modules and talking videos replacing that person. My 2 cents.

I know our research departments need help with collecting sorting data while adapting it to make it more user-friendly. We also are still optimizing EPIC as time goes on. That is a fluid process. We have 3 hospitals in our system and the last one went "live" in August. I help as a super-user to get them navigating. It seems there are always things that would help make it easier to chart. We also have people that help with orienting new hires to the system. I am hoping that if I can get on the train early, get my MSN at this prestigious university with out having to pay for most of it, it can't hurt.

I also am already helping endocrine with diabetes-related charting issues to try and catch issues that slip through the cracks.

Thanks!!
