interested in dialysis nursing

Published

Hello. I've been lurking here for a while because I'm interested in doing dialysis nursing. I wonder if anyone has any advice about getting started since I have no experience at all. I'm in Colorado, and the the only centers are Davita and Summit Kidney Center. I've visited Davita's website, and there aren't any job listings in my area. I'm wondering how to go about this since I need training. Would it be appropriate to call Davita and ask about training even though there are no jobs listed? Thanks in advance. Everyone here seems really nice.

Davita does it's own in house dialysis training. Usually 6-8 weeks. Some book learning and some OJT.

I don't know about Summit Kidney Center.

I noticed that both Davita and Summit Kidney have two units each in your town. I bet they have openings.

If you are interested you should submit an application. You never know when they might have an opening.

Units don't get people offering to work often. They usually have to scramble to find someone.

Good luck

You should really look into Davita. Im a tech there and i'm loving it. They give you training as a tech. and will pay for you to become an RN (you would have to work for the company for 2 years after you grad). The techs and Rn are very similiar there. the only differences is that RN admin meds and Pre/post assessments

Specializes in Corrections, neurology, dialysis.

I would just apply at all the clinics in your area. I asked the nurses in my clinic how they found out about the job, and they all said they knew the manager and she asked them to come work for them. Our clinic is looking to hire a nurse or two, but I haven't seen them do anything about posting the job anywhere. I agree, they don't often get people actively applying so they might be very glad to have you.
