I'm an LPN working on a medical floor, have prior L/D/Mother/Baby experience. I'm thinking I wouldn't mind picking up an extra 3 shifts or so a month during the school year, 5-6 during the summer (dh is a teacher). I think I'd like to go agency, simply due to economics and the ease of the flexibility.
I'd really like to stay in Lawrence, but would go to KC or Topeka if I had to. I know I'll probably work mainly nursing home if I stay in Lawrence, I don't mind, really.
Any recommendations of agencies in the area? What can I expect to be paid? Any other thoughts or opinions?
Thanks!

You will have to go to KC or topeka. There is only LMH in lawrence as far as hospitals(I hate that place).
I know I'll probably have to travel some, though I'm assuming some of the nursing homes in Lawrence use agency. Do you have any experience with agency?
I would defend LMH as a great place to work. Why do you hate it? Staffing's good, benefits are good; have you worked there recently? I'm just curious. When I hear about nurses who work for HCA and their wretched staffing, I can't help but think I've got it pretty good. And Topeka hospitals don't pay as well (at least, not for LPNs).
But actually I'm more interested in opinions and recommendations of agencies in the area. Do you have any exerience with area agencies? What ones to the nursing homes in this area typically use? Are there any that you've heard great (or awful) things about?
bump; doesn't *anyone* have any recommendations of agencies in the Lawrence-Topeka-KC area? Please?

Hey Lori! Remeber me? I worked on L&D with Molly at LMH. Well, I don't work there any more, but just saw your post here.
I can't think of his name right now (Eddy?) but there was a guy on here a lot that worked agency. He lived in Topeka and went through Cascade agency. I think he did a lot of nursing home in Topeka and KC, but I know Cascade staffs some nursing home in Lawrence also. When I was looking into finding extra hours I met him here and he highly recommended Cascade. Just thought I'd let you know. Good luck!
I wondered if you were still up there! How are you doing!?
THanks so much for the recommendation! I really appreciate it.

There are multiple staffing agencies here in KC ... You can do a search in the yellowpages.com or if you know anyone who works for one, sometimes there are referral bonuses involved. I have many friends who pick up various hours through agencies around the metro and there is rarely a shortage of hours no matter what area you work in!

Kastas is correct. Cascade Health Services is the way to go (in my highly biased opinion). I've been with them for over 4 years full time and love it. I get free blue cross health and dental, 401k, paid time off, ceu reimbursement, etc... And they are one of the highest pay in the area. They have offices in KC and Topeka. I book out of both. They pretty much have the NE Kansas area wrapped up I think.
Good people. They are like family to me. I have some friends that work for Favorite Nurses. They are generally pleased with them also.
Thanks for the recommendations; I REALLY appreciate it!

Lori,
No problem. By the way, while I was in the office yesterday, I noticed they are having an open house career fair thing on the 25th of March. Send me a PM (private message) for more information if you are interested.
Good luck!
