I don't know if anyone has heard, but this week, our former Attorney General for Kansas Phill Kline (now the Johnson Co. D.A.) is seeking to enact a law that requires ER nurses to obtain legal blood draws on patients EVEN if they REFUSE! He has even stated that he is will arrest ER nurses and physicians for obstruction of justice if they do not comply. In all my 14 years of nursing, I have always been under the understanding that illegally obtaining blood from a patient is considered battery. Anyone have any thoughts on this? There are multiple staffing agencies here in KC ... You can do a search in the yellowpages.com or if you know anyone who works for one, sometimes there are referral bonuses involved. I have many friends who pick up various hours through agencies around the metro and there is rarely a shortage of hours no matter what area you work in!

Rayrae, I started off as a new grad in PICU 13 years ago ... HATED my Peds/PICU rotation during school -- it was sooo depressing. The NM for the PICU got ahold of one of my instructors who called, said the NM was really interested in me, so eh ... I'll interview, nothing to lose! Well, I decided to take, LOVED it ... was sorry to have to give it up when I moved, but am now at another big teaching hospital as the PICU Unit Educator!
