Insight into Nursing Program at Olivet University

Published

Hi all!!!

I have been looking into different nursing schools to find the right fit for me. Recently, someone informed me about Olivet University near Kankakee. I spoke with an advisor that gave me an option to start out in the "traditional route" or the ABSN route. (I do have enough credits to meet the requirments for the ABSN route). The problem is that I'm a little torn between the two, although the ABSN route sounds more enticing (16month completion), I'm a little apprehensive b/c concerns that it may be too fast paced. Also, a vast majority (from my understanding is done online). But the traditional route will take 24 months to complete... I would prefer to get it done sooner :(

Please if anyone has any thoughts, comments, or suggesstions, it would be greatly appreciated. I would also love to hear from those that have actually attended Olivet (ABSN or Tradtional program)

THANKS SOOO MUCH !!!

I didn't go to Olivet, but I am familiar with the area (grew up around there). You are probably not going to want to linger around the area longer than you have to, but you could have a completely different opinion than me. Olivet does have a really nice campus, but there is not a whole lot going on around the area.

I also had a choice, mine being between an ABSN (15 months) and an ADN (22 months). I really kinda wished that I had gone the shorter route. I was really concerned about it being "too intense" for me to handle, but I cannot really see it being any worse than the ADN program that I decided to attend. In the end, in ended up being about money, so I went with the cheapest deal.

Also, feel free to PM me if you have any more questions!

Thanks dogfood341!!! what school did you complete your ADN at? I think I'm going to do the accelerated route as well... Tho I have the same worries as you about it being too intense

Where did you end up going and when? I am from that area too. Hopefully, about to apply to kcc.

I moved out of the area, but I completed my ADN at a community college in southern Illinois. Just finished in May '13.
