Insight on CSU San Bernardino.

U.S.A. California

Published

I was just admitted into CSU San Bernardino's Winter 2012 nursing program. I have never been there and would like to know about the campus, the social life/networking and surrounding areas.

I am a 23 year old female and will be far from home (7 hours). I want to go to a school where I feel it is a comfortable learning environment. I've heard and read reviews that the school itself is beautiful, but the surrounding areas and streets are "bad areas".

Does anyone know what the stats are for nursing grads that actually gets jobs right out of the program? Does CSUSB have connections with hospitals where you have a better chance of getting a job out of the program? Are there any clubs for nursing students?

Where are there nice places to live for a first-year transfer student, on campus or off?

My last question is: am I better off going applying for a JC program (one that I already know has hospital connections and 100% NCLEX pass rates) than go to CSUSB and spend more money going there?

Sorry about all of the questions. I just really want the best education offered to me and to be as comfortable as possible while I am going to nursing school. Thank you for your time!

Would mind stating your stats to get yourself in? Im applying for fall 2012 and I went to an info session but they basically state exactly what's online. Total waste of time and gas. There isn't much info for the school on AN. Good luck. About the area...unfortunately I can't help you because I don't live anywhere near there. All I know is that their program is good because my cousin graduating from their BSN program. Good luck

BeachBedhead,

Ok, so my GPA is a 3.84 and my TEAS score was a 70.1%. Since the minimum TEAS score they accept is a 70%, it must have been my GPA that helped out a lot since my TEAS score was at the lowest end. Also, I took 3 years of spanish in High school, which was 5 years ago and sent 2 letters of recommendation. They take all of those things into account.

Here are my grades for my pre=reqs:

Physiology: A

Micro: A-

Organic Chem: A

Anatomy: B+

English 1A: A

I am also in the process of taking Pharmacology, which is an actual nursing class you take during the program, but this JC I am attending allows students to take it BEFORE, because for their specific program, Pharmacology is their pre=req. I am not sure if this had anything to do with my acceptance.

Would you be able to contact your cousin and ask her how she likes the program? I have been doing so much research on the area and not sure where I would live, and with whom?! I am hoping for another nursing student.

Hopefully you get into the program. I wish you the best of luck!!!

The area right around the school is not bad. Lydo apartments are about a mile down the road. There are a lot of students living there including my son. It is quiet and seems safe. Good luck to you!

Thank you, qm123! Makes me feel better to know you're a mother/father and feel secure about your son living there. Great reference and thank you for your reply!

DOes anyone else live there or recommend any nice places to live off campus? I was told not to live on campus because it is so much more expensive. However, I read reviews that it is recommended to live on campus due to the bad area. In other words, the closer to campus, the safer you are.

Omg thanks for some solid info. Was 3.84 your over all GPA or your pre req? Good stats though!

So far I have two letters of rec 82% teas. Overall GPA is 3.2 and pre req is 3.83. I have no language unless I can get a coworker to sign off on it. And I live pretty far but I did get points for going to an info session. How's my stats look?

As for my cousin, she graduated from there years ago. She highly reccomends it but she didnt transfer in like us. She went there straight out of high school and I believe, stayed in the dorms. The apartments around look pretty nice and the area doesn't look that bad. Try going for student housing.

Hi BeachBedhead!

My overall GPA is 3.75, and my pre-req GPA is 3.84. Your stats look really good, as well and I honestly think your chances of getting in are high- BUT, I am not sure the competition and standards for Fall.

I am actually currently looking online at apartments nearby. I also live pretty far away so I am looking for housing and another roommate, or two. Do you know if the orientation will help link us up with a roommate or do we need to call the nursing dept? Or do we go online?

Thanks for all the help.

You will receive, or should receive two orientations. One for school and one for program. The school would have pretty good insight as to what the housing options are. At orientation with the program, talk to your future classmates. They should have an idea if the location. I wish I could be of some help but I live far from there myself. I hope all works out. When's orientation?

Orientation is November 7th at 8am for the Winter 2012 Nursing Program. I am not sure when the University orientation is, though. I can look through my papers and find out.

Thanks for talking with me!

Hi qm123,

I was looking at Lido apartment's website, but I'm disappointed to find that they don't list the prices. Do you recall the prices for those? I'm probably going to be living by myself so floorplan A would probably work for me.
