Can someone help me with this question. I have the answer already I just need help with working it out? Like showing all the work so I can try and understand where I went wrong. This is my first med surge class and this was a study question in ATI online. But it didn't show me how the get the right answer.

Sure, where's the question?
Calculate total number milliliters of fluid a client received in a 9 hour major abdominal surgery. What is total milliliters of fluid.
Lactated ringers 150ml/hr
Cefazolin sodium (ancef) 2gm iv with piggy back in 200ml normal saline
2units of packed rbcs @ 275 ml and 250 ml
Bolus of 250ml normal saline every 4 hrs
Ranitide (Zantac) 50mg iv in 50ml DSW over 30 minutes
Answer is 2525 mL. But how??
This is simple addition. But you're right, I don't get that answer also. There are mistakes in textbooks sometimes.
I got 2625
I just found this question on ATI it states "Cefazolin sodium (ancef) 2gm iv with piggy back in 100ml normal saline" not 200 so I got the right answer.
Basically you just add up the numbers. The first one is LR at 150/hr which comes to a total of 1350 for the total 9 hour surgery.
then the next.
Lactated ringers 150ml/hr (150*9=1350)
Cefazolin sodium (ancef) 2gm iv with piggy back in 100ml normal saline
Answer is 2525 mL. 1350+100+275+250+250+250+50=2525
The bolus of NS is counted twice because its every 4 hours.
Does that make sense? Any questions?
Yes it's 100 my mistake! Thanks
So nothing had to be converted over?! Like the units measured by? I guess I'm just over thinking all of this! Med surg has been over whelming last 2 weeks!
