Hello! I graduated in May and obtained my license (yay) a few weeks ago!
My end goal is NICU. I live in a small community with only 2 hospitals in the area. I applied to the residency program at the end of April but nothing came of that because there wasn’t anything available on my desired units. I have kept in touch with the recruiter for future opportunities. Nonetheless, NICU, peds, and mother/baby residencies are rare around here. I was offered a position in June on general MedSurg at the VA (obviously no peds there LOL) and have been onboarding for almost 2.5 months (yikes!). The recruiter told me there will be some residency opportunities coming up in September/October but there is no guarantee that they will be on peds, NICU, or mother/baby. I noticed that there are a few peds clinics that are hiring and I was wondering if having peds clinical experience would be better than adult general med surg experience OR if I should proceed with adult medsurg, get some solid knowledge there and then try again after a few months of working. I have completed several CEU’s pertaining to mother/baby and am in the process of getting my PALS and NRP certifications.
Any advice is appreciated. ?
