Injecting into a blood vessel.

Hi, I am a student Nurse and currently working in a depot clinic once weekly. I have tried to research what would happen if you were to IM inject into a blood vessel and not into a muscle?

It would depend on the med,...but even if a med is ok IV but was ordered IM you need to give it IM. Aspirating should prevent this. I give Morphine 10mg IV almost daily in the ER,...so again the harm to the patient would depend on the med, but you should give it as it is ordered.
