Information from people who have already attended pre licensure nursing

Published

Hello everyone! I recently looked into WGU and I was really looking for any input or reviews on the pre licensure nursing program. Especially from those who have attended! Any information is appreciated:) thank you!

What would you like to know? I'm in the prelicensure program. I should graduate in less than 8 months.

Do you like the program? Is it tough starting it all online without already having your RN license? Are you happy with choosing them as your school? & Any other information on it. It sounds like a great program but doing all of the school work online seems scary to me!

yay! please give info on how the pre nursing curriculum is, the clinical portion, mentor, exams? Also, your opinion in managing school, work, family? Are you in the Program in California? I'm aiming to apply in the fall so any info you gives us is worth gold!

Thank You for your time!

I like the program. Some things are harder and some things are easier with it being online. I have absolutely no regrets picking this program even though I have had some setbacks in the program. Course work consists of reading assignments and either papers that you have to write or a test. Tests are given through a proctored exam site. It is much more flexible than a traditional program, however, there is still a lot of material to cover. All the course work can be done from home. Most classes there is a pacing guide to let you know how much material should be covered by when, but there is still some flexibility with that.

The prenursing curriculum isn't bad at all. The actual nursing classes get tougher, but are doable. Most of the people that I know do work and/or have families. I do not work at this time, but I have 7 kids and find this is the only program I could finish that is flexible enough. I am not in the California, but I have connected with some people in California. From what I can see the program is fairly consistent from location to location. (The course work is consistent, but clinical sites and rotations vary which makes each location experience a little different.) The clinical portion is good. You get a lot of real life experience. The only drawbacks I have are with the labs. You do not get as much lab time/lab prep as you would in a traditional program so you really have to practice at home on skills and prep as much as possible at home before and after learning a new skill. If you get in the program feel free to send me a message and I will be glad to help if I can. They use ATI for your testing so that'd be my biggest advice if you get in is to use the ATI guides as much as possible for test prep.
