I am considering a career as a nurse, and don't have to stay local. I am able to move to attend school. I am not necessarily looking for the BEST nursing school, but one that will best fit my needs. Does anyone have any idea where I can get a comparison of schools? Like an online guide?

The only place I know of that has all the accredited schools, is the Nclex pass rates from the state nursing associations. It doesn't tell much beyond the pass rates but it is a place to start. I would consider application:acceptance ratios, graduation rates, and nclex pass rates. I don't know of a source that lists them all but they are fairly easy to get either on the school website or by asking.

I'm tied to schools within commuting distance, so I got most of my feel for how schools rank from their websites and what people say about them - mostly face to face but also people on allnurses a little. So far, people have been very, very, very consistent with their assessments of the schools in the area. I'm a little surprised by that, actually.

Honestly, I just did a whole bunch of research. When I found a school I was considering, I would look up online reviews on that school to see if it was really a good idea. Generally, if people have a bad experience there, they will review it. So you're almost always guaranteed to find the honesty of a place. The less reviews they have, generally the better. Unless they've been around for a while.

Also, I don't remember where to go, but you can find accreditation via the nursing state websites.
