Info about working in Brisbane hospitals (new grad)

Published

Hi there,

I'm going to graduate middle of the year (in NZ) and going to move to Brisbane after this.

I've looked at the graduate nursing programme website and the hospitals websites but you don't get a lot of info from the biased hospital written bios.

I'd appreciate any info from people who've worked/do work in Brisbane hospitals on what they are like to work at etc (and if anyone has any info specific to new graduate programmes please let me know).

At the moment I've just focused on public ones, but if there are any private hospitals that are good to new grads I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks guys!

:)

Have you looked at the 'work for us' heading?

Hi ilikesnow, try to log on to this website (Queensland health) and read through. Most of the information can be found here.

Hope this helps

Ah right, yeah I found that one but I'm interested in hearing first hand from people who have worked in any of the hopsitals.

Thanks

Hey ilikesnow,

I have applied a new geduate programme in Brizzi.....and guess what? I was told that they take their own graduants first. If you missed out. they will try again on second.....and third lots Hmmmmm. I applied here in NZ rather than waiting for another months and currently doing mine in PACU.

Hi, I work at the Mater Hospital. They are a good employer in Brisbane. Queensland Health, not so good. The organisation is massive, as is the turn-over. I would try joining some of the nursing agencies (Oxley, Drake) and have a good look around the hospitals before jumping in. There are a few hospitals, both public and private and there is plenty of scope to find what works for you. There appears to be plenty of agency work, so finding work isn't a problem.

Hope this helps.

Well I missed out for mid-year start (didnt even get an interview.. was told they wouldnt look at my app as being overseas)..but reapplied with little hope (again told by all bar one hospital that they wouldnt look at my app..) and finally got a job at the PA!

I'm so excited!!!!!

Ilikesnow, how is the new job working out???
