Info on UCHSC and Colorado???

Published

Hi-

Am thinking of relocating from the east coast where I have worked for 10 years (last 8 yrs on psych inpatient unit). Am considering returning to school to obtain a MSN - either psych CNS or psych NP and am thinking about applying to UCHSC. Can anyone give me some inside info on this school - even better yet, specific info on the psych program?

Any other info on Colorado and places to live outside of Denver that would not require a long commute ( not say, more than 30-40 mins each way). Ideally, some kind of view of the mountains but can't afford a $500,000 place. In other words, is there anything affordable in the surrounding Denver area? I want it all, I know... can't hurt to ask!!

Thanks in advance!

I'll tell you a secret. There is a place downtown about 4 blocks from the UCHSC and it's perfect for students. I lived there. It's small, there are only studios and 1 bedrom apts. It's a twelve story mid-rised building that houses both students and the elderly. Perfect location next to Lodo (the strip) and practically across the street form Coors field.

But...only 4-500 per month!!! Utilities included!!! And Cable TV...sort of. The only problem I had was that you can't yet get highspeed internet there.

It's called the Tamai Towers. But there is a waiting list. Call and get in now, it took me a year to get in, but I hear it's usually around a year to two.

It's in Sakura Square (the Japanese Cultural mall/shopping place) Great location that nobody knows about.

Thanks for the tip - I will file it away!

Oh crap.. I was thinking about UCD!! My bad. Yeah, it's NOT 4 blocks away from the downtown campus.

My bad.

I had it in my mind UCHSC was across the street from Auraria. Sorry about that.

Thats what I thought you were thinking...although the info about those apartments is rather interesting. Are they decent? do you eat sushi alot? :)

Yeah, I'm Half Japanese. I'll lose my membership if I don't. :p

As for the apartments...yeah it is ghetto by any stretch. Carpet had something left to be desired as it's old and out dated, but it's a find if you can get in. And NO ethnicity has nothing to do with it. There just happens to be a lot of asians there.

I loved it. Hit lodo, and then WALK home. Although, it kinda encourages drinking a bit.

Hi fellow CO nurses! I live in north Capitol Hill and I love it. I don't have a car so it is perfect for me, three bus lines and everything I need just a block or two from my apartment. There are tons of hospitals right near me, UCHSC is about a 15 minute bus ride away. Right now, the market for housing in this area has gone down and prices for rentals are bottoming out so housing is not as expensive as you would think for a downtown apartment.

I meant is NOT ghetto. Whoops again.

OH OK! i was wondering why it was so wonderful if it was ghetto! :chuckle

that would be a great place to live if you were doing to DSON, don't ya think?

100% absolutely! Right up the street.

I just found a place today, i think it is in Englewood. It is a 2bed/1bath condo for 700 plus utilities. My bro lives in Boulder and pays 600 for an efficiency.

I run and it is nice, right by Cherry Creek and Highline trails. I think it is 6 miles from UCHSC and not too far from most hospitals.

I just finished my seconds bachelors, got my BSN and FL nursing license from University of Miami. Moving back to CO b/c a lot cheaper for school here, plus it is suppose to be a great school. Guess i can post on that after a semester or 2.

If you have any more questions i think my email should be on here.

I think the best place to look for a place to live is craigslist.com or backpage.com, or the denverpost.com.

i don't know if you want to buy or rent, but it might be better to rent for awhile till you figure out the area you want to buy.

Stapleton is a really nice new development area, but is a little more expensive.

If you rent from a complex check out at apartmentratings.com i had looked at several places i thought were real nice, but discovered they had some bad ratings.
