U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone, I graduated on 12/17 and I am considering a possible move either to Georgia or Texas and I am hoping someone can give me some info on communities to live in outside of Houston. I am coming from Michigan, I have 2 young children so schools are important, I am looking for a quiet and friendly neighborhood and also some nice hospitals to work in. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!!

I live on the south side of Houston. There are quite a few communities and neighborhoods that are great for families with wonderful schools. If you want a smaller district with a nice home-town feeling, Friendswood is nice. If you are looking for a bigger suburb, Clear Lake City is nice, though the school district is much larger.

The Clear Lake Regional Medical Center is really great to work in. I did my ICU/ER clinical there and loved it. Also, just down the freeway is UTMB in Galveston. I have heard this is a wonderful hospital to work for. Very supportive.

It all depends on what you really want, I suppose. Good luck with your move!!!

The North/Northwest side of Houston is nice too. I live in Spring, a little town just north of Houston. I attend school downtown and the drive isn't terrible. Other nice places are the woodlands and the Cy-Fair area. Both have very good school districts.

I grew up in Friendswood and agree it is has that small town feeling, good schools, but it is also an expensive place to buy a home. (Though there are some smaller starter homes in the Annalea subdivision that are cheaper) Now, I live in Alvin and raise my little boys here. Its also small but more "countrylike" I drive to the medical center for work and its about a 45 minute drive, but it really isnt too bad. St. Lukes has a wonderful program for new nurses...but have high standards for acceptance.

Hope that helps.

My aunt lives in Conroe which is about 30 minutes north of Houston and my cousin her daughter goes to a private school because they weren't impressed with some of the school districts. The woodlands are nice but very expensive. I have heard good things about Alvin and Friendswood.

I live in Clear Lake City which is about 35-45 minutes south of downtown Houston. I work at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and it's not bad...compared to what I've heard and seen from other hospitals. We're opening a new heart hospital in 2006 that is going to be great...private rooms all new equipment, everything and they'll be hiring a LOT of new nurses. The area is very nice, low crime, but higher cost of living than other parts of Houston.

Hi there! Just thought I would give you my 2 cents worth! We moved to Katy just about 2 years ago specifically for the schools. My son is in 3rd grade and Katy ISD has been really good to him. We live in an older neighborhood that will not grow anymore...thank goodness! We love it out here! They are getting ready to start building 1 maybe 2 hospitals right off of I-10. But the med center is just a straight shot down I-10 and takes about 30 minutes! St. Christus is right off of I-10 and Fry and then there is Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital off of I-10 and Pin Oak. The houses are very reasonable too. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

My family lives in the Woodlands. It is a beautiful area to live in. I've been trying to get a job at the newer hospital in the Woodlands (I can't remember what the name of the hospital), but have been unsuccessful. My brother works there as an RN. He loves the nurse-pt ratio.

I'm a student at UT in Austin, but my family is from Spring. The northwest side of Houston is really nice, and Spring was a nice place to grow up. It very close to the Woodlands, which is another great area. It's very possible to live in Spring and still work in the big hopitals downtown. My Dad works for Memorial Hermann and my sister works for M.D. Anderson and the drive for them is not too bad.
