I'm in block 1 at Phoenix College. I have no complaints so far (except it being so far from my home). The instructors are all pretty good so far. We meet only 3 days a week, once or twice for lab or clinical and then one for lecture. Traditional program runs during daytime hours (early labs and clinicals) and accelerated runs in the evening hours (later labs and clinicals).
I'm not too sure what other info to give. Anything specific you wanted to know?
Hello amers_here ! THANK YOU for the response! Honestly I would like to hear about ANY info you can give... I am thinking of putting it as my first choice. Not sure if I should go the accelerated or traditional pace... what are you doing?? How long did you have to wait to get in? Was it your first choice? I REALLY would GREATLY appreciate any info. I am really excited about nursing school and have heard good things about phoenix college. So you meet only 3 days a week... that doesn't seem like enough? what are the schedules like?? So the accelerated classes are all late and you have about 2 weeks off for summer instead of the traditional 3 months, correct? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I really appreciate your time!
I am in the traditional program. It was actually my 5th choice. I had accelerated at PC as my 4th. So you don't always get to choose. I waited a year and half to get in though, so I'm not complaining much. Just happy to be in a program finally.
Monday and Friday I have no classes, labs, or clinicals. Labs and clinicals interchange every two weeks, so two weeks of lab then two weeks of clinicals. So on the weeks I have lab, my schedule is:
Tuesday: Lab 8am-2pm
Wednesday: Nothing (study time!)
Thursday: Review class (1-1:50...this class was optional), Lecture 2pm-6pm
On clinical weeks my schedule is:
Tuesday: Clinical 6:45am-1:45pm
Wednesday: Clinical 5:45am-12:45pm
Thursday: Review 1-1:50, Lecture 2pm-6pm
There are about 4 different clinical sites for block 1. Clinical times will vary depending on which location you are going to. Most groups go to only one clinical location, but I'm in the weird group that goes to two each week.
The accelerated program does run throughout the summer (I'm sure there is a break or two, but I'm entirely sure).
I've heard really good things about Phoenix College on this site before, so it made me happy to get into this school despite it being so far.
Keep in mind though that all these things change. The schedule could change each semester. I'm pretty sure they keep it to 3 days a week though throughout the whole program. Clinical times and locations change too. So I can only give you the block one info.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!! I think I am going to list PC as my first choice then accelerated PC as my second... maybe I might get in faster since it doesn't seem to be the top three choices for most. I apologize if this comes off weird ... Do you feel so overwhelmed or can you honestly say you feel like you can have a "life" still? I have heard from many people every minute is taken up by studying... which is completely understandable! I am just curious... WOW thank you for all the great information!!! I wish you luck with everything and thank you again!
If you're trying to work a-lot during school too, then no...you probably won't have a life. I work two days a week right now and so far it seems I'll be able to handle that, school, and a social life. But we're only a few weeks in. And I guess it depends on you personally, and how much you need to study.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter what your "top choice" is. You'll get into what ever college has an opening first. And in this "market" you'll be lucky to get into a program with less than a years wait, I was "worried" about my top picks too, but then I realized that with the wait I'll go to MCC or Glendale, whoever has an opening first!

I am in Block 4 at PC and honestly, I love the program. There have been a lot of changes in my year and half there, but the instructors have all been pretty good for the most part. We only have class one day a week and do clinicals in 12 hour shifts and that is normally only one day a week with 2 clinicals scheduled for about 3 weeks this semester. Every other semester though has been for the most part one classroom day, one clinical day (depending on what group you get placed in). Nursing school is pretty time consuming if you put the time into that you should, so I would recommend you save accordingly, take out loans, etc. to diminish your work schedule as much as possible. But I am a single mom and have worked the majority of the time and still managed time for "life" :) Congrats on getting into the program!!

Hello! I just graduated from Phoenix College's nursing program and I think it was very thorough. I was in the excellerated program, and the days changed throughout the blocks. I worked parttime the whole time, but its difficult to find enough time for study and a life too. Block 1 we had lecture on mondays/tuesdays 4:00-9:00 and clinicals wednesdays/thursdays 1:00-9:00. Block 2 lecture changed to monday/tuesday 12:00-7:00 and clinincals on saturday 6:30-6:30. Block 3 and Block 4 lectures were wednesdays 12:00-7:00 and clinincals on saturdays 6:30-6:30. They have a good pass rate on their NCLEX too, I think its like 98%. Overall, I think the teachers were very knowledgable, just the schedule is a little crazy.

Actually I wouldn't mind getting any information, specific or non-specific on what nursing school is like at Phoenix College. I've been time/date stamped and am waiting to get into nursing school now. I'm still taking a couple of co-reqs here at PC, and I have PC listed as my first and second choices - PC traditional as first choice, PC accelerated as my second choice. But I will take whatever opens up first, of course. I have Gateway, Glendale, and Scottsdale as my other choices, but I would prefer to stay here at Phoenix College as I've been taking pre-nursing here now for the past 4 semesters. It happens to be just a short bus ride from where I live and work in central Phoenix also. Thanks everyone for all of your replies! Just reading these has given me more info already than I had before. You can read printed info put out by the school, but info from students themselve who are actually attending is more helpful in a practical way - trying to figure out potential schedules, possible work conflicts, logistics of getting to classes, etc. Thanks again everyone.......:wink2:
