We just have signs posted in our waiting areas.
It doesn't do much good though, people still think that their "emergency" is always more important than someone elses.
Those that DO understand...generally don't need to be told!

i agree rnin92. you can talk to some people til you are blue in the face! it is like talking to a wall. laura, good thought though. if we were only in another world. you may want to read the customer satisfaction thread (i think that is the one). keep the good thoughts , some day, someone may listen! :)

we have those signs too. Just a few months ago, we had a guy put his hand through the wall in our triage booth because his daughter wasnt seen before someone with chest pain. the daughter had a low grade fever for 3 days and the chest pain patient had a hx of an MI.....
I would have called the police but the triage nurse tried to calm the man down. I just dont have patience with these loose cannons.
I agree too, but my boss wants me to find a brochure/sign or something we can hang in the waiting room, we see over 500 patients a day, with 12-16 hour wait times, and of couse the hospital is full and everyother hospital is on bypass. I guess we need something to point at and say please read the sign.
thanks for your response
>>we see over 500 patients a day, with 12-16 hour wait times,
and our patients whine when they have to wait 3 or 4 hours. geez...

Is there anyway you can share your poster with me? can you fax it or send in the mail?
I agree with you, its not going to help but it looks like we made the attempt to educate.
thanks

You can always "google" the term you are looking for to get some info. Like these:
http://kidshealth.org/faq/emergency.html
http://www.bjrh.org/er.htm

I think you should bring up such a brochure to a supervisor, etc.... I don't work at a hospital yet, so I don't know who would handle such a thing..... do you have a public relations dept????

Hey - you're in Chicago. Email the ENA at ena.org They have a great little brochure on their website. Explains the triage system, care that you will receive, etc. We use it here in Peoria! Good luck
