Hi everyone, I'm wondering if any RNs here have info about these 2 hospitals. How they treat their nurses, if the nurses are happy there, what type of salary can be expected. I'm looking to relocate to Denver if the opportunity is right. I'd be working preferably in Mother/Baby and I have 2 years of experience. I've been doing research on my own but sometimes it's nice to get an actual person tell you their experience.
Thanks!!

Curious why you're asking about those two hospitals, specifically?
I like what I've read about their OB/GYN and NICU departments and was wondering if they were good hospitals to work for.
I've never worked in OB in either hospital. I don't know very much about PSL, but I do know some nurses and providers who have worked at St. Joe's, and from what I've heard, it's a somewhat dysfunctional environment - very cliquish, and the nurses tend to shut out newcomers. This is just what I've heard. I personally would also have a really hard time working at a hospital that won't provide birth control/sterilization for postpartum women who have undesired fertility. But that's just me.
Children's has an awesome NICU and having worked in the NICU, I can tell you firsthand that the atmosphere is very collegial and welcoming. I've heard really good things about the L&D units at Rose, Swedish and Med Center of Aurora, with regard to it being a great environment for the staff. Benefits and opportunities are very good at both University and Denver Health, but both places are going through a period of transition/upheaval in their OB units right now.

PSL is the number 10 rated hospital in Denver. I didn't even know there were 10 hospitals in Denver. That should tell you everything you need to know.
Thank you for the information, I appreciate it!! :-)

Hi Franco81,
I worked at PSL for a few years 2009-2011. Hopefully I can give you some helpful information. If you are considering NICU then PSL is the best in the Denver area. PSL has a good reputation in the community for their NICU. Now granted I haven't been at PSL since 2011 but at that time most of the nurses were not too fond of the administration there. That being said, I found that the majority of the nursing staff were very friendly and helpful. I started as a new grad so that says alot. One of my friends recently had a baby on the L&D unit there. The unit is very sterile looking, non-inviting. They take high risk so you get good experience but the unit needs a major update. Swedish Hospital on the other hand was just recently renovated and is a beautiful unit. They also take high risk. I had my daughter there recently and had EXCELLENT care. The nurses that I had were fantastic. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Yes that does help me. Thank you nurse901 I appreciate it!
