I was wondering if anyone can give more more info on outpatient dialysis clinic. This clinic has 13 chairs with 3 tech and one charge nurse me. There is another nurse that works part time and there will be an overlap where we will both be there. I am currently burned out of med-surg. I work there for a year and couple months since graduating to get my skills but hate, it. I just applied and got this outpatient job. Anyone out there like it? Many post stated how much they hate it. I saw when i shadowed that it is alot of work but seemed to be a routine versus med-surg where it is constantly turning over.

Dialysis needs some good nurses so might be worth giving it a try esp if you're in need of a change-- It's true the majority of posts in the dialysis forum are negative. It's long days, pts with multiple comorbidities.

Dialysis constant is turning over not only in patients but staff. My opinion is there should never be less then 2 nurses on the floor due to I have had more then 1 pt crashing at the same time. Trying to run back and forth treating to can be emotional/physically exhausting. Your pretty much in a dead run the entire shift and lucky to get a drink of water much less use the john. At least this has been the case in every dialysis unit (chronics) I have been employed by and been the DON of one. I finally decided my body couldnt take it anymore.
