hello to everyone,
i just became a member of this site. currently i am a social worker pursuing the cadc (certified alcohol and drug counselor) credential. eventually i would like to be a psychiatric-mental health aprn and have decided to go to nursing school. i already hold a bachelor's degree in psychology and would like to obtain the rn license in as little time, and with as little cost, as possible. once i have done that i would like to obtain the msn.
the programs i am looking into are adn, diploma, direct entry, and accelerated bsn. does anyone have any feedback on specific nursing schools in ct? what was your experience there and would you recommend the program?
also, i have perused the forums and have read the horror stories of very qualified candidates getting rejected or waitlisted. i am wondering if anyone who has been accepted to nursing school has spent some time in another career, and has a bachelor's in a non-nursing field.
thanks,
melody

I am going to St Vincents right now. I will start the program in the fall. There was no waiting list, but I had to take many classes over, English, Sociology (clep), Math, chem, a&p 1&2. microbiology, religion, psy, lifespan before I start. I

I know you specifically mentioned BSN programs, but if you already have a degree in another field and eventually want an MSN in psych, have you thought of Yale? They are a direct entry program (no nursing requirement for admission) and have a great psych NP program. It is a 3 year program, full time, for both the nursing (GEPN) part and then 2 year specialty portion. You already have great credentials for an MSN in psych, and psych nursing, esp. master's level, is one area I don't think prior nursing experience is necessary. The students are basically learning how to be therapists and they get the physical assessment and pharmacology training, which allows them to prescribe meds.
Thanks for the responses...
So far I have decided to apply to Yale, Gateway CC, and Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. Those are the schools where I will actually have completed everything I need to apply on time.
Anon, I have read some of your other posts regarding Direct Entry...are you going to Yale? You can PM me and then we can discuss it.
