Hey guys! Just wondering if any of you could give me some detailed information about Mountain State University's CRNA program. I know that it is considered a "distance learning" program. I have received some information from the school but would like to hear from any of you out there already attending the program, or from anyone who has some information about it. I know it is a relatively new program and apparently the only one in the country that offers coursework delivery in this manner. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! LLL123:roll
I guess no one out there knows any exciting information about this program that they would like to share! Oh well, I was hoping somebody would reply because I haven't gotten any replies back from the school. This could be a sign!!

I have a friend who is attending this school. He studies so much that there is little time for extra stuff but if you have a specific question I would ask him. He goes down to Beckley which is where the school is every 3 weeks for on site stuff. He likes the program a lot. He says the faculty members work very hard to get the material across and are more than willing to spend extra time answering questions although many of these communications are by email and their web site. From the times on the emails the faculty members must never sleep.
This is their second year of being open. Both classes are on campus every 3 weeks for 3-4 crammed packed days of lectures, simulation training, labs, testing, etc. Some lectures are on dvds so you can do much of the course day or night.
He doesn't know why you haven't heard back from the school but he thinks they are down one faculty member and the others work extra long hours because they are so dedicated. The director works above and beyond what anyone would consider humane.
Does this help?
Thank you for your reply! This information sounds very encouraging. I will contact the director of the program instead of the assistant this time and see if I get a response. If they are down a faculty member then I can understand the delay! Thanks again for the information, it was very helpful. If anything else arrises about this program please post!!
If you have any problems getting any information let me know. I asked my friend if he had any suggestions. He said that if you don't have any luck getting your questions answered there is one of the faculty members he thinks is extra special and is always willing to help the students. She teaches the legal and ethics course and he thinks she would help you out. Do you want me to find out her email address?

This is more encouraging news for me. I'm seriously considering applying to MSU at the ripe old age of 47 to get into the BA/BS -> BSN accelerated program, then continuing on after graduating for the MSN.
EDIT: I just found out this afternoon that a friend from church is starting an advanced program @ MSU soon. She's been a nurse 30 years, and she investigated MSU carefully. She said it's an excellent program top to bottom, and they really work to help the students with scheduling. It is, however, more expensive than most of the in-state nursing schools because it is private. On the glass-half-full side, MSU's tuition is supposed to be the lowest of all of the state's private schools. I didn't see what the out-of-state tuition is.
Either way, with my friend's resounding endorsement of both the school and my pending career switch, I initiated the enrollment process by submitting my online application today. FWIW, she also reaffirmed what I'd already read: that WV has a severe shortage of nurses. If I have my way, I'd like to stay away from the Charleston hospitals, and go to Cabell-Huntington or St. Mary's to begin, and eventually end up as a FNP.
