Requesting information on the Gulfport/Biloxi/Ocean Springs area with regards to housing, living conditions, etc., particularly since Katrina.

Also, would like any information concerning the VA in that area. Working conditions, etc.

I'm a resident there but I am a nursing student, just passed 3rd of 4 semesters and could not help you as far as pay and such; i have only worked clinicals. New apartments opening up all the time, seems to be plenty of houses for sale now. I lost mine(flooded, but built back) This link has more links in the right hand side of local newspapers on line; scroll down to MS news(sun-herald is the gulfport biloxi paper)

I thought the VA was destroyed; I'll see if I can find out..feel free to PM

I am also a nursing studen-level 2 of 4 so I can't help you with job pay or whatnot. But housing seems to have gotten adequate, it was initially very expensive and hard to find after the storm. It seems ok now though. I live on a military base, so I'm not entirely sure.

My nursing instructors have said awful things about the VA. I don't know much about it, other than that the patients are not cared for as well as they should be.

Living conditions have greatly improved since the storm, and are getting better every day.

The coast is getting back in shape since Katrina. I have been nursing here for the past 10 years. Houses and apartments sinces Katrina are way over priced. Home insurance is expensive and hard to find.

Ocean Springs is a nice little town with good schools. If you have any questions about the hospitals on the coast, PM me, I have worked at most of them and can provide you with some insight!

Good Luck, B

I'm a nursing student, also, and have lived on the MS gulf coast for almost ten years now. Be careful about home owners insurance, as it's going up 300% everything south of I-10. We sold our Ocean Springs just after the storm, and moved inland.
