Info on Florida RN salary

Published

Hello everyone. I am an Operating Room nurse in the Houston area. I am looking to relocate to the Tampa/Clearwater area to be closer to my family. I grew up about an hour north of there, but have spent most of my healthcare career in California and Houston. I was a surgical tech for 10 years, and have been a nurse for 6 years. I worked at a large trauma hospital for a total of 8 years, and have been at a smaller (20 OR) community facility for the last 1.5 years. I am an ADN and will have completed my BSN before the move. I keep hearing over and over about Florida being very low in pay for nurses, but I am unable to get any real concrete numbers. Can anyone tell me what kind of pay to expect if I were to move to that area? I know that kind of info is a little uncomfortable to give out, be I would really appreciate the help, and any other advice you may have on relocating to that area.

A second choice of location (less desirable) would be the south Jacksonville area. Any advice, information, suggestions, ect would be greatly appreciated. Really, I just want to be back near my family, and need help figuring out the best way to go about that.

Thank you all so much.

Julie

Most new grads make $20/hr. Since you have a few years OR experience you should get $28-30 hr.

Most hospitals in FL don't care about a bachlors degree. Turn-over is high.

Specializes in Huntingtons, LTC, Ortho, Acute Care.

I Have a BSN, I was an LPN for 5 years, and was an RN for a year prior to coming here. I make 22.90 and hour and im 3 hours across the state (from tampa) on the east coast side. hopefully you will make a decent amount RT your experience.

Is the 22.90 with your shift differential, or is that your base rate?

Did you ever find the answer to your questions? I am searching for the same answers. I am an OR RN in Houston with a BSN and looking to move to Florida.

I have been a nurse for 20 yrs, 2 yrs LPN, 18 Yrs RN. Experience LTC, Home care, hospice Case Manager. Looking to move to dunedin / tarpon springs area. Wondering about the pay scale.
