Info about the Cincinnati Area (any input appreciated)

Christ Nursing school is a great nursing program. I worked at Christ Hospital for awhile and absolutely loved it. The nurses I have talked to from that program had nothing but good things to say about it.

As far as the area around the college, its not the greatest. The only good thing, there is affordable housing everywhere around it because it is very close to the University of Cincinnati. Plus, you can communte from anywhere in the city and be there in about 20 minutes.

Cincinnati has its good and bad parts like every city. There are a lot of great opportunities with 3 huge hospitals right downtown.

I love Cincy--AND the University of Cincinnati area! Look at places on the Northwest side of Campus--it's called the Gaslight area. The apartments will be pricier, but it's a nice area to live in with lots of restaurants, bars, grocery within walking distance. If you're looking to buy a house though, the Gaslight might not be the right idea (unless you have lots of money)--someday Husband and I want to move there, but, um, that's someday.

Sorry I can't be any help with childcare...though I'm sure you could find a student or few who are willing to nanny while they study for their teaching degrees.

I've lived in the Cincy area my whole life and can help, but I need more info from you.

What are the good and not so good areas of the city? - Are you looking to live in the city, or more like the suburbs or rural area? The gaslight is nice, however, do NOT go outside the gaslight. If you see a place for $500 a month, you're outside the gaslight. Apartments in the gaslight seem to run about $800 mo (for 1 bed). Monfort Heights is nice, but kinda pricey. You could always live in Northern Kentucky. If you live in Ft. Thomas or around there then downtown Cincy is a short drive away. Also, I've found that apartments in Northern Kentucky are more affordable and nicer than apartments in Cincy. Hyde Park is nice (in spots) as well. Clifton is not good, nor Avondale, Westwood, Over the Rhine, Lockland. Many parts of the city can have nice spots and bad spots so you really need to price compare. If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Where can I find affordable housing? - What is "affordable" to you? Can you give a price limit? And how many bedrooms and such are you looking for? I live in a rural area (Pierce Township) and pay $600 a month for a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo. 1100 sq ft I am surrounded by the elderly so it is nice, quiet, and safe. Are you looking to buy or rent? What kind of commute are you looking for or do you need to be on a bus route?

Do you know anything about specific childcare centers in the city? There are many daycare centers, if that is what you are talking about.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Im quickly finding out though that everyone doesnt have the same opinion of what a "good" vs "bad" neighbor hood is. Clifton happens to be the biggest xample of this so far, a lot of people have told me that its a good neighborhood to live in while others have said to stay away from it. I guess it all depends on what each person is used to and their upbringing.

I do want to actually stay within city limits though, I dont want to live in the outside suburban areas. I have to make a trip there on the 23rd so hopefully while Im there I can find a decent place to live as well as find child care.

I was hoping to find a 24 hour daycare, maybe I'll have to ask around for something like that though. And looking for Univ. students to provide child care was a great idea.
