Has anyone taken the CMS course for Infection Preventionist? I started it but am having trouble staying awake during the course.

I'm curious - is it online? Are you taking it for CEUs?

Yes it’s online. I’m taking it because as of November, every SNF has to have an Infection Preventionist.

And I got 19.3 CEUs.

I tried to get certification some years ago and I was unsuccessful. It a very intense course and I am curious to know if the CMS course is similar.

I didn’t think it was difficult but I’ve been doing this for years

Hi there. I was recently appointed as an IP in the SNF that I worked at and I have no experience in IPC at all. I am in the middle of doing the IP training by CMS and it is very confusing for me. I might have to do it twice. I sometimes regret accepting the position. my Morale just goes down as I move on with the Training. the material looks very simple but since I have no experience, everything is just hazy. help lol

Hi CapeCodeMermaid

we are in the same situation! I switched from being unit manager of our very busy Skilled Unit to Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Control Preventionist. The regional director sent me an email asking me to complete the Center for Disease Control’s “Infection Control Preventionist for Long Term Care” course.
This course was 16 Modules; each module had separate mini-courses and quizzes.

The instructions for the test for the Infection Control Preventionist course explained that you must achieve a score of at least 80 % on order to pass The test allows the test taker 60 minutes to complete the test and it must be completed in one sitting. And you are allowed to take the test twice

my score was 78 the first time, so I had to take it a second time I noticed that you are able to review the test questions after taking it- whether you pass or not I was able to review the questions I got wrong I printed out the 3-4 pages of my actual test ( with my correct answers & my wrong answers with the all the corrections right on it!)

I waited a couple of days, then reviewed my old test- with the corrected answers

the next time I took the quiz, I passed with a score of 97%!

* while I was reading all the modules, every now and then I took the time to print out the many things I was not familiar with I punched holes in the articles I printed out and placed them into my new binder “Infection Control Preventionist” for future reference

I hope this helps!

If it were my only job it wouldn’t be bad but I’m the DNS, SDC, IP, and almost everything else
