Greetings everyone...

I just wanted to know if this diagnosis for my NCP is appropriate:

Ineffective Role Performance r/t Low Socioeconomic Status as manifested by: Unemployment.

-Pt. is a 41 y/o male, unemployed, lives with parents. He also has a child that he does not provide support for.

Is the diagnosis appropriate?

Thanks in advance for your replies

it makes sense as a diagnosis, but i definitely wouldnt use that as a priority diagnosis... what kind of nursing interventions will you do to fix this?

if you are to come up with several diagnoses then, i guess this would be okay to include in your care plan, but try looking more at why hes in the hospital. what is his medical diagnosis? what can you do as a nurse to improve it and get him home asap?

I agree with ashleyisawesome and I would change the phrasing to: Pt is an unemployed 41 year consequently living at home and unable to provide for his child. Then adding diagnosis, or reason for hospital visit and your nursing interventions.

Thanks for the feedback. I wanted to use the diagnosis for my Psychosocial care plan... Its definitely not priority and you're right about their not being many if any interventions for me to perform for such diagnosis, but I haven't observed any other ineffective behaviors I can use for a psychosocial care plan

For a Psychosocial Care Plan, how about "Impaired Parenting"? If depressed, "Hopeless"? "Impaired Social Skills"? I am just throwing out ideas to get the juices in your brain flowing...
