Lady,
I didn't know there was 2 differ types of DL programs!!!!- I'm for CA. That being said, I came across a thread you posted re: CA and its restrictions for taking maximum classes....is there anything else I should know (restrictions/advantages) via ISU DL in CA?? Another concern is that the whole online thing might be a struggle, b/c I wont have an instructor and classmates to converse with (at least in person). Whats it like for you?? :)
You do have an instructor. The instructor provides the syllibus and the workload. You must submit your weekly papers, quizzes, tests or projects to the instructor. Should you have a problem, you are free to contact your insructor via blackboard. You have an opportunity to make friends on line because those in the cohort group shares info on line. You can also send personal emails. As far as struggling with DL classes, I can't comment as everyone's situation is different. In general, online courses are far more rigorous than non DL nursing classes. The difference between normal nursing classes and DL classes is you do not drive to campus and sit in on a lecture. If you need a professor to lecture to you versus reading the assigned information, then DL would not be for you. What is it like for me, I am accustomed to working on my own. When I had a question, I sent it off to the instructor and/or shared it with my cohort classmates.
i have a question. how difficult is it to find clinical sites? i live in nc, and the only lpn to bsn programs are 2+ hour drives away. i cannot make that drive every day, it would be killer.
i work well independently, and do not need a lecturer. my main concern would be clinical sites and the process i would use to find them.
I am going to defer to those attending the ISU DL program in your area or you could call the dept and ask. I believe ISU nursing department has a website that outlines the authorized clinical facilities by state/city. However, the website may not be up to date. They also mentioned if you have a specific site in mind for your clinical, that you give ISU the info and they will try to place you there (this is particularly useful if you already work for the site.)
I am in Calif and there are so many LVN, ADN and BSN programs here that ISU clinical sites are difficult to find. I am open to driving up to 3 hrs one way to get to a site. However, it is not necessary to go to clinical every day unless you wish to just to get the hours out of the way in a hurry. Each clinical has a certain amount of hours that must be obtained during a semester. There is no restriction as to the amount of hours worked each day. You could work 5, 8, 10 12 hrs a day and then come back the next week and do the same until you fulfill your clinical hours for that class. Others work 2, 3, 4, or 5 days a week till their hours are accomplished--this way the clinical requirement is finished in a week or two. Either way you do your clinical, your clinical hours are determined by you and your facility.
