Can we please chime in as to whether indiana state is offering a viable program for LPNs to BSNs?

How about responses from current students?

Thanks so much for that info. it really helped. I'm recently new PN grad and was considering using the college network. Also had concerns about getting preceptor/ clinical site. One question , is the course based on your on pace?

I program normally takes 3 years (6 semesters of Fall/Spring) but some states may allow you to take 2 clinical courses or 2 theory courses during 1 semester which could sped it up. In Ca the nursing board only allows 1 clinical course per semester, so you can't speed it up. It is possible some courses may be available during summers. It would be nice to hear from others who have completed the program who may have finished earlier and how they did it.

The course is set up to be 6 semesters or 3 years. You could take longer I'm sure. The part that is self paced is doing the prereqs and 4 challenge exams, as well as the Teas exam.

The school is supposed to help set up a preceptor and site. You may have to do some footwork if you are in a remote area that has no sites previously used by ISU. I think it varies in difficulty depending on what state you are in and distance of acceptable clinical sites. I spoke with the coordinator from Ca and she said there are currently 100 students in the program and that everyone was placed without a problem. The best thing to do is contact the state coordinator for your state and get an idea of which facilities have been used before and might be an option.

There are ways to get through the program without using The College Network too. Read all the ISU threads and you will get a lot of info. You can PM or email me if you gave further questions. [email protected]

Hi there everyone, I am a LPN with an associate degree with almost every nursing prereq out there done. I just need advice and suggestions on either to go to Excelsior college or Indiana State University. Does anyone know how long it will take me in either colleges since I have an AA degree with all my prereqs out of the way. Please some one help.Thank you.

That is not true that they do nothing to help with clinical sites. You decide where you want to go and they arrange the contract. Look, it's a school with students all over the country. Do people honestly expect them to set up thousands of contract all over the country *just in case* a student MIGHT go there someday? That's silly. You HAVE to be proactive in a distance program. That's just part of the gig. I completely understand wanting to ensure a site before forking over the money. That makes sense. However, I'm really not sure what people are expecting from ISU in this regard. My experience has been that they are remarkably helpful in arranging the contracts and very very open from the get-go about it being your responsibility to have a site that will take you. If you live somewhere where the hospitals don't want you, what specifically are you expecting ISU to do about that? Know what I mean? I get the impression from some posts that some are saying ISU is somehow neglectful or unhelpful if you are unable to find a site and I'm not sure what the expectation is.

I have 2 more semesters at ISU and have not had any problems finding a clinical site or preceptor. I did locate the facility but ISU did all the paperwork & negotiating for the contract. I was also given names of facilities that other students had used in prior semesters. I would have to disagree that ISU does nothing to help you find a clinical site/preceptor.

ISU may cost more from Excelsior, but some states do not accept Excelsior because they do not have clinicals. My total cost will be around $23,000 including clinical fees, tuition, & testing fees. However, I will have a BSN when I have finished and this is completely worth it. My cousin just paid a private school close to $62,000 and all she has is a RN and cannot transfer any of her classes to a university to receive a BSN she must continue and this overpriced school!!!!

ISU's distance program is definitely not for everyone!! If it was that easy then everyone could do it and that would not be good for the patients were are caring for.

From what I understand, only Calif limits clinicals to one per semester. Call the ISU 800 # and they could give you more info.

I am about to enroll with The college network. Since I complete most of prerequisites, just need to do the transitional courses before applying to Indiana State University. My questions is 'Has anyone challenged the actually transitional courses, so we can skip the college network" "Has someone successfully finished the phase 3 through Indiana State University and what's your experiences"
